The city of Jaipur was founded in the year 1727 by Maharaja
Sawai Jai Singh II. On November 18, 2014, Jaipur celebrated its 287th
birthday. The city was decked up with colorful flags, the old city wore a fresh
paint of pink that is so synonymous with the name of Pink City Jaipur, with
rice powdered colorful rangoli patterned at the main entrance gates of the
city. It was indeed a sight to behold and cherish.
Jaipur has always been considered as one of the major art
and craft centers of India. One has just to walk into the bylanes or big roads
of this city and is sure to find some kind of art or craft being made here.
Whether it is jewellery, blue pottery, terracotta pottery, stone carvings,
miniature paintings, semi precious stones painting, weaving, tie and dye
artisans, ironsmiths, to mention a few.
Even the spices found in the markets have a distinct taste
bearing testimony to this desert capital.
