Places to Visit in Jaipur

City Palace, the current residence of the Royal Family of Jaipur is a beautiful palace located in the Pink City of Jaipur. It is surrounded by large imposing walls on all sides that give it a look like an audience hall, along with several pavilions and other artistically constructed buildings.

Amber Fort is also fondly known as the Amber Palace, The Amber Fort was constructed during the reign of Raja Man Singh in the 15th century. Owing to the influence of the Hindu and Muslim artisans of that era, the palace bears a sharp resemblance to the fusion of both religions in its creation. The Amber Fort has beautiful palaces and courtyards, large and wide gateways and staircases, as well as delicately sculptured pillared pavilions.

Hawa Mahal aka Palace of Winds, owes its existence to the Parda system of the late 17th and 18th centuries. It was built in 1799 by Sawai Pratap Singh and was designed by Lalchand Ustad. The five-storey structure has more than 950 windows. It was built with red and pink sandstone. The latticework of Hawa Mahal was built in such a way that women could watch the processions and everyday life of the city from there. Hawa Mahal is situated at Badi Chaupar near Johri Bazaar and gives a beautiful view of the entire Pink City. It currently houses an archaeological museum and is side by the ‘zenana’ (women’s section).

Jantar Mantar was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II during his reign between 1727 and 1734. The monument is testimony to the intellectual prowess of astrologers of that era and proudly stands as one of the five astronomical observatories of India.

Jal Mahal is a beautiful lake palace which was built during the reign of the ruler Sawai Madho Singh during the 18th century and is situated in the middle of Mansarovar Lake. Red Sandstone was used in its construction and it is considered as one of the largest artificial lakes of Jaipur.
