The month of October heralds in the start of the tourist
season in Jaipur. The markets are brimming with excitement and an air of
festivity adorns the atmosphere of the city. The major tourist sightseeing
places are the City Palace, the Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Jal Mahal, Sisodia
Rani ka Bagh, the impressive fortresses of Nahargarh, Amer and Jaigarh, amongst
other attractions. The old city is painted in pink color from where Jaipur city
derives its nickname as the Pink City, the ancient entrance gates of the city
namely Delhi Gate, Ghat Gate, Sanganeri Gate, Ajmeri Gate and New Gate are
festooned with traditional Rajasthani designs and colorful decorations.
Tourists who come to Jaipur come from various streams of
interest – some come with the ecstasy of seeing a heritage city and are awed by
the centuries old monuments and forts found here. While some come with a
religious bent of mind to visit the ancient Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple dedicated
to Lord Shiva which was built towards the end of the 17th century in
1784. They also visit the famous Moti Doongri Ganesh Temple and the Birla
Mandir in Jaipur.
